When Computers Take Over the Library
Computers and libraries go together like peanut butter and jelly. (Well, like peanut butter and jelly that don’t make a mess on books, anyway.) Let’s face it: stacks of books to keep track of, reference material to organize, lists of patrons to keep tabs on. I’m sure that, by this point, there must be more than a few librarians out there who quake at the thought of running a library without some electronic assistance.
Ordering, however, still requires the human touch. Here’s a case in point: the computer at YBP Library Services created a community college selection list for Black History Month that was unacceptable, to say the least.
According to Library Journal, the books on the list included a biography on Black Sabbath, the vintage rock band, as well as a book about a commercial shipping accident, Black November: The Carl D. Bradley Tragedy.
